Are dermal fillers designed for soft tissue augmentation
Skin deteriorates as it ages and its exposure to sunlight inhibits the ability of fibroblasts to produce collagen. The effective treatment is injecting fillers into the dermis that underlies the wrinkles. This was designed as space filler, with additional physiological effect. As the injection stretches the dermis, the fibroblasts respond by producing more collagen
RESTYLANE and JUVEDERM , are dermal fillers made from a highly purified form of hyaluronic acid that mimics the effects of natural hyaluronic acid. They are injected under the surface of the skin to restore the natural contours of the face. The longevity of correction ranges from 6 to 12Â months.
RADIESSE is an injectable filler material composed of synthetic calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres and aqueous gel. When placed into soft tissue, Radiesse provides immediate correction. Over time, the carrier gel is gradually absorbed and the calcium particles remain. Local fibroblastic response at the site is a production of the new collagen around the microspheres. The longevity of correction ranges from 12 to 18 months.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
How is a treatment performed?
During treatment filler is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with a very fine needle. The gel produces volume under the wrinkle, which is lifted up and smoothed out. When enhancing lips or facial contours, it adds volume and shape to the treated area. Mild to moderate stinging and burning is common during the injection, while redness and swelling can last for hours or days after the injection. The amount of filler used during your treatment depends on the desired correction.
How long will the treatment session take?
Treatment with any filler is a very quick and easy process and generally takes 30 minutes. The time differs somewhat, depending on the correction you wish to have performed.
What areas can be treated with fillers?
All of them can be used for smoothing out folds and wrinkles, lip enhancements and shaping facial contours. The most common areas are the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows), the nasolabial folds (from the root of the nose to the angle of the mouth) and for lip enhancement, although other sites can also be treated. Very superficial or very deep wrinkles may be difficult to correct.
Are there any side-effects?
There are few reported side effects and those reported are commonly associated with injection of filler materials. These may include swelling, bruising, pain, itching and tenderness at the injection site. These conditions typically resolve on their on own within a few days.
